Revolution Cup Debuts at Eagles Canyon Raceway

The east coast season opener for the 2024 Revolution Cup PSSA championship was held at the newly renovated Eagles Canyon Raceway in Decatur, Texas. Eagle Canyon Raceway is a private, World-Class FIA Spec 2.7 Mile Road Course with 15 total turns, over 200 feet of elevation change and a 2,200 foot long back straight. 2024 marks the first visit to the facility for Prototype Sprint Series Association (PSSA) parent company Parella Motorsports Holdings. The weekend schedule was held over 3 days from March 8-10th 2024.

The 2023 PSSA Championship runner up Judd Miller III of Katy, TX looked to start the season off with a solid weekend. Fellow competitor and son Palmer Miller was unable to make the event at the last minute as well as an unfortunate accident at the previous weekends NASA TX event forced another PSSA competitor to withdraw from the event. Due to these circumstances Judd had an even better chance to gain some valuable points in the quest for the 2024 championship.

The weekend started off with 4 Free Practice sessions and the team from Esses Racing led by head engineer Jeff Simon honed in on the setup to deal with the off camber and challenging blind corners.

Weather was perfect for the first qualifying session and Judd set the fastest PSSA time of 1:48.348 and was only bettered by Stuart Crow in his Ralt 41 Formula Atlantic.

“The car ran flawlessly and I am happy with the lap but I feel like there is a bit more in the car and will dial it in for Qualifying #2said Miller.

The first sprint race was held on Saturday afternoon and saw Miller take the chequered flag in P2 overall and 1st in the PS1 class the perfect start to the season. Fellow prototype competitor Paul Read in his Wolf GB08 suffered mechanical failure late in the race.

Qualifying 2 was held early Sunday morning in close to freezing conditions but Miller had the setup dialled in and the Hankook F200 tires were up for the task as a fast time of 1:48.001 was set shaving close to half a second off the Saturday qualifying mark.  Miller was set to start on the pole for Race 2.

Conditions for Race #2 were much warmer than qualifying but Miller took the led into Turn 1 and led overall for the first 2 laps but the pace of the Ralt 41 was too much to keep the overall lead. Judd finished P1 in the PS1 class securing another 16 points in the championship.

After the event Judd Miller said he was impressed with the facility, large amount of track time that was free of any major incidents and looks forward to returning in 2025.

Up next is Road Atlanta for the Revolution Cup PSSA East series and the Revolution Cup North America. Judd Miller III and Ron Fletcher are tied atop the standings with 48 points apiece. Road Atlanta will see the 2024 return of Revolution competitors Zac Moseley and Marc Russell of Classic Car Club Manhattan along with over 14 other prototypes.
