Wet and Wild: Revolution Drivers Weather the Storm at Silverstone GP

Updated: 6 hours ago

Last weekend, the iconic Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit played host to a thrilling round of the Equipe Sports Prototypes series, where Revolution drivers Shane Kelly (UWRacing) and Aimee Frame (Revolution Factory Team) tackled a 21-car grid in a true showcase of British summertime weather.

The weekend kicked off with Friday's testing sessions, where wet conditions prevailed for three out of four sessions, challenging the drivers and teams alike. Qualifying on Saturday saw damp conditions, setting the stage for an exhilarating 20-minute sprint race held in monsoon-like rain. Fortunately, Sunday brought a reprieve with dry weather, offering ideal racing conditions for the 40-minute main event.

Aimee Frame Impresses in Unforgettable Debut

18-year-old Aimee Frame delivered a standout performance on what was not only her first race in the UK and her first race in a Revolution but also her first-ever experience driving in wet conditions. Showing remarkable composure and a steep learning curve, she absorbed feedback session by session and consistently improved throughout the weekend.

Starting 17th out of 21 after a damp qualifying session, Frame mastered the monsoon conditions of Saturday’s sprint race, finishing 13th overall and 4th in class. On Sunday, with dry conditions at last, she put all her learnings into action — driving faster and more confidently lap after lap to finish 12th overall and clinch P1 in class, taking home her first trophy in Revolution competition.

Shane Kelly's Rollercoaster Weekend

For Shane Kelly and the UWRacing team, the weekend was a testament to the highs and lows of motorsport. A collision with a slower car in Friday’s opening test session left the UWRacing Revolution 500 EVO needing extensive repairs. Thanks to rapid parts supply from the Revolution factory, the UWRacing team got the car back on track in time for Saturday’s qualifying.

Despite the setback, Kelly qualified an impressive P4 overall and 2nd in class. In race one, under deluge conditions, he charged through the field to finish P2 overall and P2 in class, closing in on the race leading LMP3 lap by lap, but ultimately ran out of time to clinch the win.

However, hopes for a victory in race two were dashed early due to a spin on the first lap, underscoring the unpredictable nature of racing.

Onward to Donington Park

The Equipe Sports Prototypes series now shifts focus to another legendary British circuit — Donington Park, where the next round takes place on 5–6 July.

Aimee Frame’s wet-weather debut and class win, alongside Shane Kelly’s comeback drive, made Silverstone a weekend to remember and one that perfectly captured both the unpredictability and excitement of UK motorsport.
