Hofmans Shines on Wet-Weather Revolution Debut at Snetterton

Revolution Race Cars’ Works Team was at the heart of the action at Snetterton as the Equipe Sports Prototypes series delivered a weekend of close, wet-weather racing on the full 300 circuit. The 5/6 June meeting brought together a varied prototype field, with Revolution 500 EVOs racing against Norma, Mittell, Praga, Pedrazza and Radical machinery.

Debuting for Revolution was Dutch racer Greaham Hofmans, recently named as a Factory Affiliated Driver with Revolution Race Cars. The 17-year-old joined the UK Factory Works line-up alongside Revolution regular Eitan Zidkilov, stepping into the Revolution 500 EVO after building experience in NXT Gen Cup, electric karting and Radical prototype machinery.

Hofmans made an immediate impression in qualifying. On his first competitive outing in wet conditions, and on his debut weekend with Revolution, he secured pole position overall with a 1:59.492 lap (some 1.4 seconds clear of P2), outperforming a grid that included several highly experienced wet-weather racers. Zidkilov also delivered a strong session, qualifying second in Class A and fourth overall in the sister Revolution 500 EVO.

Race 1 was held in wet conditions and quickly developed into one of the standout battles of the weekend. Hofmans led for much of the race before a late spin dropped him from the overall lead, but he recovered to secure an excellent second overall and second in Class A. His race featured a superb three-way fight with Max Windheuser in the Norma M20FC and Scott Mittell in the Mittell MC-41RR, with Hofmans keeping himself firmly in contention despite the challenging conditions.

Zidkilov also brought home a strong result in Race 1, finishing third in Class A after a determined run that included a good battle with Tim Gray in the Praga. With Hofmans second overall and Zidkilov fourth overall, Revolution placed both cars well inside the leading group in a race that rewarded precision, patience and confidence in the wet.

Race 2 brought more rain and another thrilling fight at the front. Hofmans again took the challenge to Windheuser, taking the lead on the opening lap, the lead cars swapped positions and battled throughout the race, seeing Hofmans pushing the Norma driver all the way to the flag while also having to defend from the charging Mittell. The top three were covered by less than three seconds at the finish, with Hofmans taking another superb second overall, just 2.040 seconds behind the winner and less than a second ahead of Mittell in third.

For Zidkilov, Race 2 was a case of what might have been. Running well in difficult conditions, his race was compromised when he misread his pit board and came into the pits by mistake, the spray and poor visibility making the board difficult to read. The error cost him track position.

Despite that, the weekend was an impressive showing for the Revolution Works Team. Hofmans’ debut was particularly eye-catching: pole position overall and two second-place finishes in his first weekend in the Revolution, and in his first competitive experience of wet-weather racing. Zidkilov, meanwhile, showed strong pace and racecraft in the sister car, adding a Class A podium in Race 1.

Across both races, the Revolution drivers were in the thick of the key battles, helping to produce some of the closest and most entertaining prototype racing of the weekend. On a mixed grid featuring Radicals, Pragas, a Norma, a Mittell and a Pedrazza, the Revolution 500 EVOs proved competitive in demanding conditions, with Hofmans’ debut performance marking him out as one to watch for the rest of the Equipe Sports Prototypes season.

The Revolution Works Team will now turn its attention to the next Equipe Sports Prototypes round at Brands Hatch Indy on September 5/6, where both Greaham Hofmans and Eitan Zidkilov are set to return. With the Brands Hatch weekend scheduled to feature qualifying and two races, the pair will have another strong opportunity to build on the pace shown at Snetterton and keep Revolution firmly in the fight at the front of the prototype field.
