Revolution Race Cars co-founder Phil Abbott is the subject of a feature in the latest edition of evo magazine, offering an insight into his career spanning more than four decades in automotive engineering.

Written by evo journalist James Taylor, the ‘My Life & Cars’ feature traces Phil’s journey from his early mechanical training and work at Spyder Engineering through to his involvement in race car design, and the co-founding of Revolution Race Cars in 2017.

The article starts:

“Co-founder of Radical and Revolution, car designer and serial innovator Phil Abbott tells how the Lotus Elan, Sierra Cosworth and suntan lotion all played a part in a remarkable career.”

Phil’s career has included the development and production of thousands of race and track cars, alongside numerous engineering innovations. Today, Phil continues to lead Revolution’s technical development alongside co-founder and son James, with the latest chapter in that story being the all-new Revolution HyperSport.

Designed from a clean sheet, HyperSport combines the characteristics of single-seater, GT and prototype race cars in a lightweight package weighing 680 kg and delivering 515 bhp per tonne. Its development reflects Revolution’s continued focus on combining high levels of performance and safety with attainability and driver confidence.

The connection between Phil’s early work and the latest projects with Revolution is clear in the article, with Phil commenting:

“Nearly 30 years ago, I decided nobody was building the car I wanted to buy, so I made it myself. It’s incredibly exciting that today we find ourselves with the right group of truly passionate racers who are ready to do it all over again.”

The feature provides an insight into the thinking and experiences behind that philosophy, as well as the cars and engineering projects that have defined Abbott’s career. The full ‘My Life & Cars’ feature is in the October edition of evo magazine, on sale now. Pick up a copy to read the full story behind Phil Abbott’s remarkable life in cars.
